The 2025 State Preeminent Science and Technology Award was announced in Beijing on July 8. Academician Ben De, our alumnus of the Class of 1957, has received the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award.
Following Academician Liu Yongtan from our institute, Academician Ben De is the second recipient of the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award cultivated by the discipline of Information and Communication Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology.
Ben De, male, born in 1938, is a researcher at China Electronics Technology Group Corporation. He is the founder of China’s airborne pulse‑Doppler radar technology, a principal pioneer of phased‑array radar technology, and a forerunner of space‑based surveillance radar technology, as well as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
He studied in the Radar Speciality of the Department of Radio Engineering (predecessor of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering), Harbin Institute of Technology, from 1957 to 1963.
