The team led by Professor Zhao Bin and Associate Researcher Li Hongzhi from our institute won the championship in the Academic & Research Institutions category of the 2026 MWCapital Awards.

On June 18, 2026, the 2026 MWCapital Awards ceremony was held in Barcelona, Spain. The project “RCare” developed by the team of Professor Zhao Bin and Associate Researcher Li Hongzhi from our institute — an AI‑empowered millimeter‑wave radar‑based vital‑sign monitoring system capable of clinical‑grade, non‑contact vital‑sign monitoring including heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and electrocardiogram — advanced to the top‑17 shortlist of this global science and technology innovation competition and claimed the championship in the Academic & Research Institutions category. It is also the only Asian project among the six winning championship entries.

Co‑organized by the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association), B Lab Spain, the Spanish Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Service, and Red.es, the MWCapital Awards recognizes outstanding technology projects that advance digital transformation, foster sustainable development and generate positive social impact.

A total of 298 submissions from 62 countries were received for this event. Seventeen shortlisted projects were selected for their innovation, scalability and contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Following rigorous evaluation by the jury, six championship winners across different award categories were honoured for their innovative application of advanced technologies to address global social and environmental challenges.

All MWCapital Awards laureates will gain international exposure and access to collaborative projects within the global innovation ecosystem. Shortlisted projects will also be invited to present their solutions at the next MWC Barcelona. This platform offers broader visibility and opportunities to build strategic partnerships.
