在MSRA的第一天

*Blog快张草了，贴一篇除除草。

早上6点48分，我踏上了北京的土地。今天是个阴天，不算是令人心情愉快的天气；不过，与多日的酷热相比，清爽的空气显得格外难得。我在车站前等了半天，终于找到了一个合适的出租车，直奔微软亚洲研究院总部——西格玛大厦。

早就听说了北京堵车是出了名的，尤其是在上下班的高峰期。不过今天似乎运气特别好，一路上都比较顺畅，从车站到微软用了四十分钟就到了。原本想先去报到，结果负责注册的工作人员还没有上班。也好，我直奔微软实现安排好的北航住处。幸好有个同学来帮忙拿行李，不然，我的肱二头肌有得到长足的锻炼。实现定好的住处真是不错，虽说三人间挤了一点，但也像个小宾馆，而且还有独立的卫生间。可惜早上出来太急，没来及洗个澡。换了件衣服就跑出来了。

上午九点左右，我开始到MSRA注册。同来的不只我一人，还有另外四位。注册的过程有点麻烦，先要看几分合同，然后填写表格，之后领卡、银行开户，最后有工作人员带我们去见各自的mentor(即导师)。不巧的是，我的mentor不在。顺便跟着其他几个人走马观花地“参观”一下微软。上一次来还是2003年的时候。当时参加暑期夏令营，有几乎参观了一番。现在微软研究院和工程院几乎占据着整个西格玛大厦，而且我所在的“机房”还只不过是西格玛大厦的侧楼。难怪给我注册的Shirely小姐也迷了路。

“参观”完，我回到我的机位。不错，还是个新机器，3.0GHz的CPU，1GB的内存，还有液晶显示屏。看来跑程序应该比较快，可以大干一场。不过在这里不允许随便地安装软件，更不用说盗版软件，合同上白纸黑字写着“pirate software”(盗版软件)是禁止使用的。可惜我惯用的EditPlus、Babylon等利器不能在这里派上用场了。不知到CTeX能不能用，我正打算学用LaTeX排论文呢——MS Word的排版功能排论文有点麻烦。

没见到mentor，下午就琢磨着给他发个信，联系一下。不过配置Outlook还得花一回时间看说明文档。所有邮件经过Exchange Server，估计是要被监控了。毕竟是外企公司，和实验室的开放完全不同。

第一天先适应一下，未来的一段时间里，估计会很紧张。和组内的几个弟兄吃饭闲聊，看出他们并不轻松。不过在实验室也是这样，莫怕滚打锻炼出来了，相信这里难不倒咱IR人。先写到这里，回去收拾一下，继续改论文。
